Huh?

I read this recently and it threw me..."The proof of the pudding is a radical hard case..."

I think it may be meant as a counterargument against the old adage, "The proof of the pudding is in the eating"--i.e. don't believe the hype till you experience it for yourself. That it's argued as "a hard case" could beckon that, while that's certainly true for most situations, aesthetics also plays a significant role, especially nowadays in a postmodern society where it's difficult to convince others to taste the proverbial pudding without being affected by instantaneous information.

Commentary against narrowmindedness. As Passing Thru puts it "being affected by instantaneous information." The narrowminded individuals of the world would rather stay in their own self-constructed sphere, than obtain new information. They think that this protects their opinions and keeps them sacred.

By the way pudding is fluid, not solid. Well, maybe close to solid because it kind of wiggles.
